Although
virtually unknown to British skiers Kimberley is ranked among the top ten
Canadian resorts. It has an enviable snow record and last year had over 27 feet
of Champagne Purcell Powder Snow. Kimberley is known to Canadians as The Jewel In The Crown
of Canadian Skiing . It is
the second highest city in Canada. Top elevation is 1,981 metres the vertical
rise 751 metres and with over 1,800 acres of skiing and snowboarding on the
mountain Kimberley offers trails for the beginner through to expert. The terrain
is broken down into 20% beginner, 42% intermediate and 38% advanced / expert.
From the beginners area and perfectly groomed runs on the front side of the
mountain to the steeps, moguls and gladed runs on the back of the
mountain. Plenty of fluffy Purcell powder snow and blue skies make
Kimberley an ideal resort for mixed ability groups. Rarely do you see a lift
queue or a busy run and the views across the valley towards the
Eastern Rockies are just stunning.
If your dream is to learn to ski on
meticulously groomed runs under the guidance of highly skilled English speaking
instructors, cruise around whilst gazing at an unending view of the eastern
rocky mountains or ski and board in waist deep powder snow then Kimberley
has to be at the top of your list. Because of its micro climate Kimberley is
located in the valley of hot springs, it also has the benefit of not suffering
the extremely low temperatures of its neighbours Banff, Lake Louis, Panorama and
Fernie. Kimberley is ranked among the top ten Canadian resorts. It has an
enviable snow record and unlike European resorts is pretty much snow sure over
the Xmas and New Year period.

More About Kimberley
* "There's more to Kimberley than what
meets the eye. Powder, glades, bumps, steeps, trees, or natural half pipes.
Kimberley Alpine Resort has it all" - Powder Magazine
* "Kimberley! it was like a mini Japan
in the trees......so much fun" - Snowboarder Magazine
* "Because of the snow and the mountains
there is no place like it in the world" - National Post
* "A few steps and you are sliding on to
the North Star Express which will whisk you 2,100 feet to the peak of Kimberley
Alpine Resort and a day of skiing or boarding. That ease
of access is one of the major selling points for NASJA members as we plan ahead
to the spring and our Annual General Meeting at Kimberley" - Inside Edge (
Newsletter of the North American Snowsports Journalists)
* "Kimberley Alpine Resort is a popular
family resort, enjoying consistent snowfalls, short lift lines and an abundance
of sunny days." - Ski Canada Magazine
* "Disappointed with European snow
records, the crowded slopes and traffic jams of Colorado we headed for
Canada. Having been to Jasper, Kicking Horse, Panorama, Banff and Lake Louise
(all were bitterly cold when we were there) then Fernie (closed due to
avalanches one day then raining and low cloud the next) We stumbled upon Kimberley
by accident. Like most Brits we had never heard of it but its blue skies,
fresh powder snow and lack of crowds won us over so much we decided to build
Sunshine Chalet there" - Richard & Susan Haines owners of Sunshine Chalet
